The research focuses on two urban areas in Europe ( Dublin , Istanbul ), which are both part of the EU-MOLAND project. By focusing on two MOLAND cities, a wealth of data (including detailed land-use information and socio-economic data) are available to the project.
The most important criteria that were taken into account for selecting Dublin and Istanbul as case studies are the availability, the quality and the spatial coverage of remotely sensed archive data, MOLAND land-use data and ancillary data sets, as well as the strong differences in urban structure, extent and dynamics between the two areas. The latter is important for assessing the generic character of the methods that are developed.
Contacts with local partners were also considered important in the selection of the two study areas.

3D applications are only done on Istanbul
